Medicare Plans in Ohio

Seniors Primero Insurance Agency is licensed in Ohio and works with beneficiaries across the state by phone. Whether you are turning 65, retiring later than 65, or reviewing a plan you have had for years, our role is to explain your choices clearly so you can decide with confidence.

Your Medicare choices in Ohio

Ohio beneficiaries choose between the same core structures as the rest of the country, but availability and pricing are local.

  • Medicare Advantage (Part C), a network based alternative to Original Medicare that often bundles prescription drug coverage and extra benefits.
  • Medicare Supplement (Medigap) with a standalone Part D plan, for nationwide provider freedom and predictable cost sharing.
  • Standalone Part D prescription drug coverage for those staying with Original Medicare.
  • Special Needs Plans for beneficiaries with Medicaid or certain chronic conditions.

What Ohio beneficiaries should check

Ohio has large hospital systems in and around Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Akron, and Toledo, and Medicare Advantage networks do not all include the same systems. Before enrolling, confirm that your primary care physician, specialists, preferred hospital, and pharmacy are covered by the plan you are considering, and that each of your prescriptions appears on the plan's formulary.

When you can enroll

Medicare enrollment windows are federal, so they work the same way in Ohio as in Florida.

  • Initial Enrollment Period, the seven month window around your 65th birthday month.
  • Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7.
  • Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, January 1 through March 31.
  • Special Enrollment Periods after qualifying events such as a move or the loss of employer coverage.

Free state help is available too

Common questions

Ohio Medicare questions

Answers to what Ohio beneficiaries ask us most.

Are you licensed to help in Ohio?

Yes. Seniors Primero Insurance Agency is licensed in Ohio in addition to Florida, and Ohio appointments are handled by phone.

Is Medicare different in Ohio than in Florida?

The federal rules, parts, and enrollment periods are the same. What changes is which plans are offered in your county, which providers are in network, and what each plan charges.

Can I switch from Medicare Advantage to a Medicare Supplement plan?

Sometimes. Outside of your Medigap open enrollment or a guaranteed issue situation, Medigap carriers can use medical underwriting. We will explain how that applies to your specific timing before you make a change.

Do I have to meet in person?

No. All of our consultations are telephonic, which means you can review your options from home anywhere in Ohio.

Where can I get free unbiased counseling in Ohio?

OSHIIP, the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program run by the Ohio Department of Insurance, provides free Medicare counseling to Ohio residents.
