Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most from the families we serve.

Does Original Medicare cover dental care?

Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care such as cleanings, fillings, dentures, or extractions in most situations. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a dental allowance, and standalone dental plans are also available.

Is there a waiting period before benefits start?

Many dental plans cover preventive visits right away and apply a waiting period to major services such as crowns, bridges, and dentures. Waiting periods vary by plan and carrier.

Can I keep my current dentist?

It depends on the plan. Some plans pay the highest benefit inside a network, while others let you visit any licensed dentist and reimburse based on a schedule. We can check whether your dentist participates before you enroll.

What does a dental plan usually cover?

Most plans are organized into preventive care such as exams and cleanings, basic services such as fillings, and major services such as crowns and dentures, each covered at a different percentage up to an annual maximum.
